SUMMARY:The “Hungry Club" at Big Mama’s Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:The “Hungry Club” welcomes everyone and meets the first Wednesday of every month at Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering from 12:00pm – 1:00pm except during the month of February each year. This is an opportunity for members of the community to come together and enjoy a great meal\, listen to information presented by guest speakers on topics concerning north Omaha and the entire Omaha Metro Area. \nOur guest speaker is Ms. Toccara Steele. Ms. Steele is a regional Supervisor of the Fatherhood Initiative Program at Lutheran Family Services. The Fatherhood Initiative Guides non-custodial fathers as they work to re-engage with their children and families. \nResearch shows that when a father is present in the lives of his children\, that father and the children have a higher quality of life. Fathers have more motivation to maintain employment\, to not use substances and have overall better mental health. Children that have a present father in their lives are less likely to engage in risky behaviors\, drop out of school and have more positive social experiences overall.

He is the Senior Director of Operations at Omaha One-Hundred. Jamel has extensive experience working within financial institutions to provide resources and lending opportunities. Beyond facilitating the loans that allow businesses to take shape\, Jamel acts as a mentor for small business start-ups. This relationship-based approach provides concrete support and personal connections to foster sustainable businesses. Through his work\, Jamel wants to see small businesses prosper and families build generational wealth. \nThe Hungry Club is a monthly lunch\, held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at nationally renowned Big Mama’s Kitchen in Omaha\, Ne. We bring in speakers of local and national interest\, who present for an hour on a topic of significance for all of the Omaha metro area and for the north Omaha community as well. The Hungry Club is held in an intimate setting which allows lunch attendees to ask questions and have a good discussion with the presenter. To date it has held Congressional\, US and State Senate debates. We have had local community leaders\, elected officials\, educators\, business owners\, economic development experts\, holistic healing and medical experts be guest speakers. This event is open to the public\, everyone is welcome and invited to attend.

The core mission of Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue (SGPFR) is capturing and redistributing fresh and prepared edibles – 1.4 million pounds of food was distributed in 2021! They connect perishable food from local food purveyors to local nonprofits that feed our hungry\, while raising awareness and educating the community on wasted food and hunger.\n\n\n \n\nPrecious has a passion for neighborhoods\, advocating for safe and clean neighborhoods. From family physicians to specialists\, Jonathan is an Omaha native and is a Mentor\, Coach and Business Development Team Member & Director of Community Outreach for QCR. He is the youngest of 4 siblings. Attended Omaha North High School and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Senior Director of Behavioral Health Services\, Charles Drew Health Center. Larry is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor\, Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner\, Licensed Professional Counselor.\n\nMr. Duncan is originally from Chicago\, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He has been the Behavioral Health Director at Charles Drew since 2019. He’s passionate about community advocacy and involvement. His personal mission at Charles Drew Health Center:\n\n“To train and lead professional behavioral providers to provide competent and culturally relevant services to our surrounding community. I’m driven by the knowledge that unaddressed behavioral health problems can destroy the lives of those we love. Enjoli & Timeless have performed on numerous grand stages with artists such as: Pleasure P\, Juvenile\, Angela Winebush\, Cece Pineston\, Keith Sweat\, Donnell Jones\, Lyfe Jennings\, Lenny Williams\, Changing Faces\, Tink\, Musiq Soulchild\, DJ Khalid’s “The Four” Finalist Leah Jenae\, International Recording Violinist Dominique Hammons\, Grammy Award Winner Lecrae and toured with the legendary rap artist\, Twista. \nDuring the 2020 Presidential Election\, Enjoli & Timeless had the prestigious honor of performing live at the Biden Harris Campaign for the historic District 2 of Nebraska.
